Zusammenfassung
Zelluläre Automaten sind diskrete dynamische Systeme. Der Begriff geht auf John v. Neumann zurück, der eine sich selbst reproduzierende universelle Turingmaschine in Gestalt eines zweidimensionalen zellulären Automaten konstruierte (v. Neumann, 1966). Populäres Beispiel ist Conways ‘Spiel des Lebens’ (Gardner, 1983).
