Part of the book series: Reviews in Modern Astronomy ((MOD.ASTRONOMY,volume 4))

Summary

Shear flows are found in many astrophysical objects such as accretion disks, jets and rotating stars. The study of their stability is particularly important with respect to the occurrence of turbulence in accretion disks and the stability of stellar rotation laws. Properties and mechanisms of shear instabilities relevant in various astrophysical situations are discussed.
