Abstract
Specific antibodies are necessary for the rapid identification of pathogenic yeasts, the elucidation of the structure of serotypic specific epitopes, and the detection of circulating antigens in patients with disseminated mycoses. Monoclonal antibodies (MAbs) are presently the most efficient probe for these purposes. This review presents the main results on the production and characterization of monoclonal antibodies directed against Candida albicans and Cryptococcus neoformans which are responsible for the major yeast infections in immunocompromised patients.
