Abstract
The chemical conversion process is suitable for pollutants which can be oxidized or reduced to innocuous compounds. The conversion may be either developed at high temperature (thermal conversion) or at low temperature, using a catalytic system to lower the activation energy of the reactants and to achieve a high reaction velocity of the process (catalytic conversion). Both conversion processes are largely applied to oxidize organic pollutants, typically hydrocarbons, and to reduce oxides, typically NOx.
