Abstract

The structure and functioning of the Sahelian ecosystems, in their natural state, is not well known. Only the Fete-Ole savanna in the northern Ferlo region of northern Senegal has been the subject of in-depth investigations carried out over more than 10 years by a resident team of the French section of the International Biological Programme, within the ORSTOM/Sahel programme (Bourlière 1978; Poulet 1982).
