Abstract
A need for character-encoded CGM arose at Boeing Computer Services in order to view mainframe-generated graphics on a PC. The CDC InterActive Facility (IAF) prevents direct binary downloading to Cyber and Cray users, and file size rules out clear text: character encoding provides the one viable alternative in this environment. This paper gives a short history of Boeing’s experience with CGM and current plans for expanding functionality and domain.
