Abstract

The operation of a graphics system requires extensive computational power which currently is only just available at graphical workstations. So on many systems it is necessary to run the graphics routines on the same computer as the application program. This configuration may be justified on economic grounds but leads to inefficient operation of the general purpose single processor computer.
