Abstract
The taxonomic study of honeybees from the Near East and the Caucasian region has been a confusing puzzle in the past, rather than solid scientific work. Some varieties were named but not properly described more than 100 years ago, but even that was not performed according to the rules of nomenclature: the still frequently used name “remipes” for a bee of the Caucasian region was first published in 1862 by Gerstäcker and reused in another sense by Skorikov (1929 a), both referring to a letter, or rather to an unpublished manuscript by Pallas.
