Zusammenfassung
Der hohe Stellenwert regelmäßiger physischer Aktivität, insbesondere des Ausdauertrainigs, als Mittel zur Förderung der Gesundheit und Prävention von Herz-Kreislauferkrankungen ist heute allgemein akzeptiert (24, 26). Auf der anderen Seite ist aber jede sportliche Aktivität auch mit einem gesundheitlichen Risiko verbunden. In den letzten Jahren wurde verschiedentlich in den Medien über plötzliche Herztodesfälle unter Sportlern berichtet. Von der Presse hervorgehoben wurden beispielsweise der plötzliche Herzinfarkt des „Jogger-Papstes“ James Fix beim täglichen 15-km-Lauf, die plötzlichen Herztodesfälle einiger belgischer Radrennfahrer, aber auch der Zusammenbruch eines Freizeitsportlers beim Marathonlauf in Los Angeles, der als Patient mit arterieller Hypertonie medikamentös behandelt später im Krankenhaus verstarb.
