Beim Granulieren wie auch beim Tablettieren tragen interpartikuläre Kräfte zum Zusammenhalt der Agglomerate/Komprimate bei. Kennzeichnend für das Tablettieren ist die relativ hohe Druckspannung, die der Preßmasse von außen aufgeprägt wird. Diese bewirkt

eine Verringerung der Schüttgutporosität durch Umlagerung und Zerkleinerung von Partikeln,
-
eine Verringerung der interpartikulären Abstände,
-
eine Erhöhung der interpartikulären Kräfte,
-
eine Verformung (elastisch → plastisch) der Primärpartikel.
