Abstract
Almost every year the clinician is faced with new methods or modifications of existing ones, to be used in the diagnosis of acute pancreatitis. However, the diagnosis is still based on clinical probabilities arising from history, physical examination, and an educated guess, and is supported by biochemical and imaging tests. The aim of this paper is to discuss whether there is a most useful serum marker for the diagnosis of the disease.
