Methodological Progress in Pancreatic Enzyme Determination

Diagnostic Procedures in Pancreatic Disease

Abstract

The tentative diagnosis “acute pancreatitis” is generally based on rather unspecific and uncharacteristic clinical symptoms. Therefore, the establishment of a definite diagnosis requires the determination of pancreatic enzymes, in particular that of amylase and/or lipase. Other enzymes of the pancreas are liberated into the circulation as well, but only amylase and lipase can be measured in their active form with suitable methods within a relatively short time.
