Zusammenfassung
Die erste Hämodialyse bei Kindern beschrieben 1955 Mateer et al. Erst 11 Jahre später, 1966, wurden die ersten Erfahrungsberichte aus den USA bekannt (Hutchings et al. 1966). 1971 postulierten Kjellstrand et al. 4 Bedingungen für die Kinderdialyse:

a)
Die Dialysemaschinen müssen für Kinder und Erwachsene geeignet sein.

b)
Das Füllvolumen des Kinderdialysators muß so klein sein, daß zusammen mit der Füllung der Blutsysteme 10% des kindlichen Blutvolumens nicht überschritten werden. Wenn man 8% des Körpergewichts für das kindliche Blutvolumen zugrunde legt, errechnet sich das erlaubte Extrakorporalvolumen (in ml) mit 0, 008 mal kg KG.

c)
Die Effektivität des Dialysators sollte in Abhängigkeit vom Körpergewicht eine Harnstoffclearance von 1, 5-3 ml/min/kg zeigen.

d)
Größere Osmolalitätsverschiebuhgen während der Dialyse sollten durch Mannitolgabe (1 g/kg KG) vermieden werden.
