Abstract
Not uncommonly, when patients develop an untoward response during an operative or dental procedure under local anesthesia, it is the local anesthetic agent that appears to be the culprit and, from there on, patients are “labelled” as allergic to that specific drug or, worse yet, to all “caine” drugs [1–3]. This motivated us to investigate several approaches for the purpose of defining the type of untoward reaction suffered by the patient and to attempt to establish whether, in fact, an allergic response had taken place. In our study we tested with various methods and drugs, as well as confirming the patients’ acceptability and tolerance of the nonreactive drugs.
