Abstract

In this chapter, we shall consider the electron-ion ionization processes. We will devote our attention mainly to the direct and exchange Channels of single-electron ionization. From the ionization processes involving electron transitions of several electrons, only the excitation-autoionization process will be discussed. Other multi-electron ionization processes, such as direct multiple ionization, inner-shell ionization followed by Auger decay of the autoionizing State created, will be omitted from our consideration, since the understanding of strongly correlated multi-electron processes at the present time is rather limited.
