Abstract

Bile vomiting has been reported as a complication of all types of operations for peptic ulcer disease [1, 2]. Most authors have reported bilious vomiting in about 10% of patients, studied after various surgical procedures [3, 4]. Considerable variation does, however, exist between the different series, probably because assessment of reflux was performed in different, often subjective ways. In order to establish the existence of duodenogastric reflux, which causes postoperative gastritis with its symptoms of epigastric discomfort, an objective test for reflux is necessary. Several methods of measuring duodenogastric reflux have been described (Table 15).
