Abstract
With the development of standardised operative techniques, it is possible for us to compare the different operative procedures. However, an accurate, statistically relevant comparison can be achieved only by prospective randomised studies. This kind of study is rare in the surgical literature and has been used only during the last few years in clinical investigations.
