Abstract
Oscillatory movements of the Earth’s crust, uplifts and subsidences, have been going on throughout the whole of the geological history of continents known to us and are still occurring. They have occurred everywhere within the continents and continue to go on. At the same time other forms of movement, both those affecting the whole crust and those within it, are always of a local nature and each of their manifestations is restricted in time. We are therefore justified in treating oscillatory movements of the crust as the most general form of tectonic movement.
