Abstract

The morphological and kinematic classification of foldings is considered in textbooks of structural geology. Here we shall follow the kinematic classification, which is based on differences in the nature of the movements of crustal material that lead directly to the formation of folding of one type or another. This classification envisages distinguishing between the folding of a block, injection folding, general crumpling, and deep folding. We shall consider block folding first.
