Abstract

When I met Dr. Götze for the first time four years ago, I was immediately impressed by his personality. There was no doubt in my mind that I was face to face with a prominent figure in the field of scientific publications. I was soon to learn that in addition to his main activity he enjoys a number of other interests. Heinz is a lover of art and of music, he is concerned with all aspects of life, and, ultimately, he possesses the rare gift of communicating his broad concepts to others. Among the many facets of Heinz Götze, I concentrate here only on his efforts to enhance communication between scientists. One of the major problems of the scientific world, and perhaps not only of the scientific world, is communication. The problem is a result of the many different languages used throughout the world and of the reluctance of some to give up a cherished part of their cultural heritage. We have often discussed the subject, and our conversations have directly inspired the following essay which I dedicate to Heinz Götze on the occasion of the sixty-fifth anniversary of his birth.
