Abstract

Porcine thyroid cells, isolated by trypsinization from adult glands and cultured in vitro in a medium containing thyrotropin (TSH), begin to reassociate within 15 min and, within a week, or more when hydrocortisone is added to TSH, regain their previous in vivo follicular organization. Cells cultured without TSH-stimulation behave similarly, though transiently during only the first days of culture. After about four days a monolayer culture extend over the surface of the plastic support. The TSH-stimulated cells also lose their three-dimensional organization after more than a week.
