Damit Gewebe geschnitten und gefärbt werden kann, muß es zuerst gehärtet, d.h. fixiert werden. Dazu werden entweder Chemikalien oder physikalische Methoden wie z.B. Kälte und Lufttrocknung (Ausstrich) verwendet.
