Abstract

A number of recent studies have shown that micropollutant contamination of raw waters exists on a wide scale. Among these pollutants, the most frequently identified are pesticides (particularly atrazine and simazine in Europe), but also common are aryloxyacids, carbamates, amide and urea derivatives. European standards stipulate that the maximum contaminant level (M. C. L.) for each individual pesticides is 100 ng/1 and 500 ng/1 for the total concentration of the substances. Alternatively, the World Health Organization directives set maximum permissible concentrations for each pesticide (2 μg/1 for atrazine, simazine, lindane and MCPA; 5 μg/1 for carbofuran; 9 μg for isoproturon).
