Zusammenfassung

Knorpelschäden besitzen lediglich eine begrenzte Heilungsmöglichkeit. Defekte, die größer als 2-4 mm im Durchmesser betragen, heilen selten [19, 26, 53, 56]. Insbesondere bei jungen Patienten stellen Gelenkknorpelschäden gerade im Kniegelenksbereich ein zunehmend häufiger auftretendes Problem dar. In einer Studie von Hardaker und Mitarbeitern [34] traten bei 16% von 132 Patienten mit Knieverletzungen Knorpelschäden auf. Knorpelschäden führen zu frühzeitiger Arthrose [50], was wir ja insbesondere bei jüngeren Patienten vermeiden wollen. Sicherlich profitieren ältere Patienten mit einem Lebensalter über 65 Jahre von einer endoprothetischen Versorgung, im jüngeren Lebensalter ist jedoch mit deutlich höheren Lokkerungsraten zu rechnen, weshalb die Möglichkeit der Endoprothesenversorgung als letzte Therapiemöglichkeit in Erwägung gezogen werden sollte [69]. So bleibt insgesamt eine große Patientengruppe übrig, der wir Behandlungsmethoden zum Knorpelersatz anbieten müssen.
