Abstract
Perennial rhizomatous mesophytic to xerophytic herbs, acaulescent geophytes or small herbaceous to rarely erect shrubs; rhizome often fleshy; R fibrous, fleshy or fusiform; basal stem parts rarely swollen (caudiciform); L rosulate, often succulent, mostly oblong, linear to triangular; Inf simple or racemose panicles; Fl with 6 Tep in 2 series, stellate; Tep oblong, white, pink or yellow; St 6 in 2 whorls of 3; Fil smooth or occasionally hairy; Anth dorsifixed, dehiscing longitudinally; Ov superior, with 3 locules with 2 ovules each; placentation axile; Sty filiform; Sti trilobed; Fr loculicidal capsules; Se elongate, ovoid or winged, sometimes arillate.
