Zusammenfassung

Antibiotika und antiinfektive Chemotherapeutika werden schwerpunktmäßig zur Behandlung bakterieller Infektionen eingesetzt. Einzelne Substanzen werden auch bei Protozoenerkrankungen angewendet. Daneben gewinnt seit einigen Jahren die Bekämpfung von Virusinfektionen an praktischer Bedeutung, vor allem seitdem antiretrovirale Arzneimittel für die Behandlung der HIV-Infektion zur Verfügung stehen.
