Abstract

History, according to the British essayist, Thomas Carlyle, is just the biography of great people. It is, of course, the ideal that those who become prominent in society be judged by their thoughts, words and actions, rather than by their appearance. However, these people are expected to perform within the framework of society, where the old rules are being replaced by a less idealistic and certainly more superficial approach.
