The Role of the Media in Public Communication of Early Warnings

  • Chapter
Early Warning Systems for Natural Disaster Reduction

Abstract

My viewpoint is that of a professional meteorologist and journalist. I have been working in the weather-department of ZDF German Television for 10 years broadcasting weather on TV and I am also chairperson of the International Association of Broadcast Meteorology (IABM). ZDF is a national TV station with the governmental mandate of distributing the whole spectrum of information — from cultural aspects to political news to the public.
