Im Jahr 1988 schrieb Franz Daschner: „In der Literatur gibt es nicht eine Studie zum Thema der Kosteneffektivität in der Händehygiene. (…) Niemand hat jemals nachgewiesen, dass der Einsatz eines Antiseptikums kosteneffektiver ist als der Einsatz einfacher Seife“[1].
