Abstract

Several natural and technogenic factors have been identified to control migration and concentration of radionuclides in the submarine environments. The principle natural factors are lithology of sediments, bottom relief, occurrence and type of Fe-Mn concretions, and seawater dynamics. The main technogenic impact corresponds to the Chernobyl trace (137Cs) and the supply of natural radionuclides (mostly U and 226Ra) from the southern coast. The joint trend-cluster model allows subdivision of the area into 5 regions that differ by relative distribution of radionuclides caused by diverse transport and accumulation processes.
