Abstract
At the end of this study of a particularly complex region several practical points should be noted:
The structure of the hippocampus is the same in its different segments, as Giacomini (1884) and then Mutel (1923) have shown. The cornu ammonis has in fact an analogous structure in the head, body and tail of the hippocampus (Fig. 11); the gyrus dentatus also; it forms a continuous V-shaped lamina into which the cornu ammonis penetrates. The visible segment of the gyrus dentatus is termed margo denticulatus in the head, band of Giacomini in the uncus, and fasciola cinerea in the tail. It is, however, the same structure and could have the same term for its whole length. Note that the visible part of the gyrus dentatus is bordered by the hippocampal sulcus for its whole length.
