Abstract
We outline here an exposition of the transcendental work of Kodaira {see Kodaira [5], pp. 108–128}, which extends to higher varieties some classical results for surfaces, in particular those concerning the deficiencies of linear systems, the irregularity q of a variety and the completeness, under suitable conditions, of the characteristic series of continuous systems. The chief tool is the theory of currents {see (IX, 3)}, though some of the topics could be treated by the methods of the preceding chapter {see Kodaira-Spencer [3]}.
