Abstract

Whereas heat transfer coefficients during film condensation of nonmetallic vapors can be determined quite precisely with the theories already treated, their application to metallic vapors results in deviations from measured values. As previous experiments showed, one obtains during the condensation of metal vapors considerably smaller heat transfer coefficients than predicted by the Nusselt film condensation theory. Thus, the ratio from measured heat transfer coefficients a and the values αNu calculated from the Nusselt film condensation theory equal approximately 0.03 to 0.2 for condensing potassium and 0.02 to 0.06 for condensing sodium vapors. Figure 5.1 gives a survey of measured values in comparison to the results of the Nusselt film condensation theory.
