Zusammenfassung
Das karzinoembryonale Antigen (CEA) wird mit relativ hoher Sensitivität u. a. beim kolorektalen Karzinom im Serum erhöht nachgewiesen. Für den Chirurgen ist es vor allem als frühzeitiger Indikator eines Tumorrezidivs nach vorangegangener potentiell kurativer Operation bedeutsam. In Einzelfällen rechtfertigt schon ein erhöhter CEA-Wert eine erneute Laparotomie, auch wenn durch die herkömmliche Diagnostik ein Rezidiv nicht nachweisbar ist. Andererseits weiß man, daß ein CEA-Anstieg bei Tumorrezidiven nicht obligat ist. Zahlreiche andere Tumorantigene wurden daher eingesetzt, um diese diagnostische Lücke zu füllen — bislang ohne überzeugenden Erfolg.
