Abstract
There are more and more descriptive epidemiological publications and maps about regional clusters of diseases found in the last years. Often they are the empirical base for hypothesis about regional environmental risks for diseases. In the case of anonymous data collection the degree of the possible regional differentiation for epidemiological research is limited by medical secrecy and the protection of the patient’s data privacy. To solve this problem post-codes can be used for the regional differentiation of data. Some consequences of this method for epidemiological research are discussed.
