Abstract

The atomic electron provides a useful and sensitive probe for the investigation of certain nuclear properties. Spectroscopic studies of hyperfine structure have yielded valuable information about nuclear spins, magnetic dipole moments and electrical quadrupole moments. Isotope shifts provide a tool for investigating the nuclear charge distribution.
