Abstract
The term “outpatient” basically emphasizes the fact that the patient can rise and leave immediately after the intervention; still it should be given a much broader meaning. There is no need at all for doing a hysteroscopic intervention exclusively in a hospital; it can just as well be done in the gynecologist’s office. There are several reasons why hysteroscopy is still not a generally accepted office procedure. These reasons lie with the patient as well as with the gynecologist and with the technical equipment at our disposal. Outpatient hysteroscopy is a highly specific gynecological examination that, besides thorough training, also requires highly adapted equipment.
