Abstract
The most common cause of hip pain in children under 10 years occurs between the ages of 2 and 12, most frequent between 3 and 6 with a peak around 6 years and two to three times more common in boys than girls. No certain correlation to trauma, infection or allergy. Relatively sudden onset with limping, walking difficulties, unwillingness to bear weight on the affected leg and tenderness in the groin over the hip joint with propagation anterior laterally on the proximal part of the thigh.
