Ocular and Adnexal Lymphoma

Part of the book series: Essentials in Ophthalmology ((ESSENTIALS))

Abstract

Molecular pathology of ocular and adnexal lymphomas is a relatively new field. Although aspects of this field such as immunohistochemistry have been used for decades to help in identifying different types of lymphoma, the newly developing field of molecular cytogenetics of ocular lymphomas is still changing at a rapid pace. Several key translocations and genetic aberrations have been identified in conjunction with specific lymphoma types, which have helped to shed further light on the diagnostic field, and at the same time are revealing that much more work needs to be undertaken in order to fully delineate the complex genetic involvement in the development of this group of diseases.
