Zusammenfassung
Prognostizierung ist Grundlage bei der Formulierung von Therapiezielen. Sie hilft bei der Kommunikation mit Patienten und Angehörigen und kann auch zur Einschätzung von benötigten Ressourcen, Kosten oder auch Planung von Strukturen herangezogen werden.
Prognostizierung ist immer multifaktoriell. Idealerweise sollten alle für eine Prognosestellung relevanten Faktoren berücksichtigt werden. In der Praxis ist es schwierig, alle diese Faktoren adäquat zu erkennen und abzubilden. Inhaltlich werden Faktoren wie Erkrankungsschwere, Organdysfunktion, Überleben an sich und Lebensqualität betrachtet.
Prognostizierung ist sowohl für die Phase der Intensivbehandlung selbst als auch für die weitere (Therapie-)Planung relevant. Über Jahre anhaltende Langzeitfolgen einer kritischen Erkrankung rücken zunehmend in den Fokus wissenschaftlichen Interesses – nicht zuletzt mit dem Ziel, die Prognose von Erkrankungen zu verbessern.
