Advanced Cosmetic Otoplasty

Abstract

The ultimate goal in otoplasty is happy patients with natural-looking ears. A holistic approach to surgery can be undertaken without cartilage scoring whereby patients have less bruising and are in less discomfort as their ear has not been degloved, they do not need head bandages, and they can shower the next day. The general techniques the author concentrates on are scar positioning, positioning and tying of Mustarde sutures, use of Furnas (concha-mastoid) sutures, and use of fascial flaps. Herein are described nuances of technique to fulfil this aim in suture-based otoplasty techniques.
