Zusammenfassung
Der Eid des Hippokrates, der das Handeln von Ärzten ethisch leiten soll, ist zwischen 2.500 und 2.000 Jahre alt. Seitdem werden die Aktivitäten der medizinischen Kunst als physisch begriffen. In den Gesellschaften der damaligen Zeit sowie den daraus erwachsenden Gemeinschaften, Ländern und schließlich Nationalstaaten bis hin zur Industrialisierung war die Information, die ein Arzt über seine Patienten sammelte, immer an einen physischen Träger, wie beispielsweise eine handgeschriebene Patientenakte auf Papier, gekoppelt. Grundlage des Schutzes dieser Daten bilden die ärztliche Schweigepflicht sowie der Hippokratische Eid. So lange der physische Träger kontrolliert, also insbesondere der Zugang für Dritte durch den Arzt reguliert werden konnte, war dem Datenschutz des Patienten Genüge getan.
