Abstract
The spine, or axial skeleton, provides support to the head, neck and trunk; transmits the vital neural elements connecting the limbs, thoracic and abdominal viscera to the brain; and maintains intimate relationships with a variety of significant neural, vascular, muscular and ligamentous structures.
