Abstract

Information relevant for patent officers as well as research staff is hidden in huge amounts of patents – both, patents’ text and images being valuable knowledge sources. The retrieval process to discover this knowledge is time consuming and therefore costly. Missing the relevant information may even be mission critical. This industry paper presents key functionality of a search and analysis solution built on top of the m2n Knowledge Discovery Suite and its use as retrieval, exploration and collaboration platform in the norm and patent domain. Semantic data harmonization, knowledge extraction and disambiguation, semantic search and graphical analysis are key features in order to support the patent officer as well as the research staff. A newly built module for semantic image analysis and exploration, linking semantically enriched metadata and figures to – before – unstructured text, is introduced.
