Abstract
The urogenital system develops from the intermediate mesenchyme derived from the dorsal body wall of the embryo (Fig. 1.1).

At fifth week, a septum divides the cloaca into rectum and urogenital sinus that later on will give rise to bladder, urethra, and phallus.
