Abstract
Image tracking has become an important technique for monitoring and surveillance applications. This paper presents a novel design of image-based monitoring and tracking system. The system uses eight infrared sensors to monitor the intruder. When an intruder enters, the system detects the locality of the burglar according to the sensory information. A pan-tilt-zoom (PTZ) camera is immediately rotated to aims the intruder according to the detection results of locality. Because the rotation range of PTZ camera is less than 360 degree, a rotation mechanism is designed to rotate the PTZ camera. Image processing technologies are then utilized to find a rectangle region that covers the image of the intruder for tracking initialization. Color feature analysis is executed for tracking. The mean shift method measures the image motion of moving object in the image frame. Fuzzy set rules is designed to rotate the PTZ camera to track the intruder according to the position of moving image. Practical experimental studies are conducted to evaluate the performance of the proposed method and results obtained verify its detection and tracking ability.
