Zusammenfassung
Der Versuch einer Unterteilung der Erde in einzelne Sphären in Form einer Aufteilung, d. h. Kompartimentierung in verschiedene, abgegrenzte Bereiche, ist einerseits sinnvoll aufgrund unterschiedlicher Zeitspannen und z. B. typischer Reaktionen, andererseits ist sie aufgrund der Wechselwirkungen zwischen den Kompartimenten für eine ganzheitliche und damit nachhaltige Beschreibung der Prozesse auf der Erde hinderlich. Die heutige Sichtweise der vielfältigen Prozesse auf der Erde nimmt darauf direkten Bezug. Dies zeigt sich im Besonderen auch in der Beschreibung klimatischer Vorgänge, die im Rahmen des Klimasystems die Wechselwirkungen aller globalen Sphären umfasst. In diesem Kapitel werden speziell einige Aspekte der Atmosphäre und der Lithosphäre dargestellt und diskutiert.
