Abstract

A critical comparative account of the special properties of the Cr(VI) reagents are discussed in this chapter. These special properties include enhanced potency towards the oxidation of not only alcohols but also other substrates including oximes and aromatic hydrocarbons; their specific synthetic applications for certain regioselective products and modified selective product distribution. A unique and quite unexpected course of reactions such as the hydroxylation at a tertiary carbon atom, observed with some of these reagents are also briefly discussed.
