Halophiles and Hypersaline Environments

Abstract

This chapter provides a short history of the international symposia on all aspects of the microbiology of halophilic microorganisms held, from the first event (Rehovot, Israel, 1978) until the most recent congress (Halophiles 2010, Beijing, China), on which most chapters in this book are based. Scientific breakthroughs and symposium events not directly connected with science are discussed from the personal point of view of the author.
