Abstract

Bitmaps documents are often a superposition of graphic and textual content together with pictures. Simard et al. in [1] showed that the compression performance on these documents could be improved when we separate images from text and we apply different compression algorithms on these different types of data. In this paper we study layered image compression via a new software tool.
